Website not uploading

I have had my website for quite a few years, and have had no problems until now... My Hosting company changed my password, for some reason... Well, I have now got a new password for uploading, but it is still not working. Just keeps saying that I need to put in my password, when I already have. They say it is the problem of Front Page and that I have to put the new password into the Front Page 'program" . Where would i be putting that password in my program? I can't find my book.

Thanks for any help

Hi there and welcome,
That is strange they changed your password. They would not give a reason?

I would try and get from them why they took it upon themselves to change it with no valid reason that they have given you.

if they changed the FrontPage password then just putting it into the normal login box should suffice.

You should be able to go into your hosting control panel and change the FrontPage password to something different for your site from there, then you can change it to what you like.

I just changed about 10 of our sites passwords via the control panel.

No reason except they were 'working" on their interface, whatever that means.

I did do as you say by chaning my password to one I will remember. It still does not work. They say I need to change it in Front Page, but where would I do that? I can't find my FrontPage book, of course. LOL !

Well the login box is the only place I can think of.?

I mean if you want to change the password using FrontPage you go to tools/site.. change password (terminology different for FP versions) but you need to know the current password to do that and login with that first. So they cant mean for you to do that.

????

If you changed the password via the hosting control panel and you still cant login then I dont know, maybe the extensions need reinstalling, but then the login box wouldnt come up.

Have you in between the change of passwords actually closed down FP and reopened i.e. file/close site ... file/exit? As it could be FP is remembering the old one.

Alternatively browse to your website with IE then click on File/edit with FrontPage and see if it will accept the password that way .....

If not ask your hosting company what they mean. Where in Frontpage lol .. tell them there are only two places, one the site settings but you need to login to change that first, and then the login/password box which is what you have tried to do and it doesnt work .....

Hi, again, my helper..

Well, I have been on the phone with them, and only got a little more along.

she told me how to upload through my server at Hostway, but I still want my Front page to do the work, so still trying to fix this.

She said that there should be a place in Front Page where I would pt in my IPA address.... and not my website name . I cannot find where I would put that in. Would you know where that would be.? Well, I got my pics uploaded, but not like I usually do.

IPA? or do you mean IP?

Gosh it has been so long since I have used FP2000 I cant remember where all the things are, but why would you put in IP address instead of your website address? Try putting it in instead of the normal url..

I thought it was the password they changed not the address you logged into?

If you have uploaded stuff via other means to FrontPage it may even be that the extensions are now broken and you need to reinstall the extensions.

Sorry I am not being much help, but I dont really understnad what they have changed and why and why you are having to totally change the way you login.

Did they say why they changed your password?

The best I can remember I had this password problem, along with another problem myself sometime back. The problem went on for about two weeks with no resolve with tech support..SO!..our beautiful MJ said it could be the Permissions..SO! I contact support again and suggested to them to check the Permissions....a few minutes later all was working well again thanks to our ...not tech support.
