someone else's theme stuck in my site

Now yes, I know this sounds ridiculous, however, it is true. I'm writing to you to ask for your help on this immaculate conception that has happened to my website.

Got this fella that published over my site on two occasions. I deleted all his stuff, on both occasions. He had used a theme for his site. Yes he had password and user name as we both work for the same company.

Well now on my website whenever I want to create a new page in my web, this stupid theme of his takes over my page. My site is heavy, pulling my load time down to over a minute or two!!

When I create the new page and get this theme on my new page, I go to "themes" and find it there!!!! I delete the mess, but it pops back up again any time I create a new page in that web. Could somebody please tell me what the ******* is going on?? I've got a feeling this is what's dragging down my load time...Thank you for your comments and advice. I'm very lost right now. How can I send that theme of his into cyberspace for until the end of time?????Judy :?:

Okay are you working in the same Web? If so when you go to tools and pull up themes and you saying delete from the whole web or just that one page? The best way to remove a theme from single pages is to go into the HTML and remove that tag out of the <Head>

    <meta name="Microsoft Theme" content="themename">

that should fix it unless the other person goes back in and say apply a theme to All pages

Hey Robert and thanks for your quick response. Let me give you the sequence that happens each time I want to add a new page to my web:

I go to the new page icon, click on it. The new page is made. [this is in the folder view that i do this] when I double click on the "new page" or it to open, that theme is there....then I go to "format themes", and there it is, that theme showing as the "default" theme. I delete it, do not add anymore themes to FP, and close it out. Thinking that that move took care of it and it will be gone forever........wrong, so wrong....next new page I make, there it is again.

I did check, as you suggested, the html for the Microsoft FP theme, there was Nothing there in the html, header, etc. anywhere.

This guy and I were working in the same web before, and his site was a sub-web on my site. But now has his own site/domain [you can guess why] and should never be in mine again, as I changed the user name and password.

Can you fire me another suggestion, please? Thank you. Judy:crazy:

Do you have the URl I can look at?

Seems strange that you would have a theme applied but nothing in the header.. hhmmmm very strange

When you say you "deleted" the theme are are not actually using the delete button on the pop up are you?? if so you are actually deleting it off your computer and not off the server so each time you opent he site you are pulling the theme info off the server and in puts it back on your computer.. You should be able to go into themes and say apply No theme and say on All pages??

    Let me know

Robert, the url is http://www.staugbeachcomber2.com. Please do go look at the guts of it and see what you can find. Please be patient, as it is a ****** to load anymore.

Your question: "When you say you "deleted" the theme are are not actually using the delete button on the pop up are you?? " I'm using the "delete" button at the bottom of the "themes" container itself. Then when the prompt wants to know if you want do load more themes, or add more themes, I say "no" and close it down. I'll be waiting on pins and needles to hear from you. Thank you for helping me. Judy

I do not see anything on the code that would be calling a theme.. I don't use FP 2002 so it must be different then 2000 because on 2000 you should have a choice of having a theme and then inside where you list is is should say No theme and then you can click the bullet that says apply to whole web or single page.

    Hmmm very strange.

You are saying this is happening when you create a new page? When you first create the page does it that page have the theme tag int he Head section?

thjat is very odd.. there is some free software that is out there that is called Theme Cleaner and it will remove any "extra" theme files once a theme is removed.. You might go do a search for it and let it install into your FP toolbar and try that. I will look for it too and let you know where it is and you can try that.. Something is kind of wacky :p:

    EDIT >>> Found it

    theme cleaner

Robert, here is where the whacky comes in, and you tell me what you think, please.

The domain of www.staugbeachbuzz.com was first published as a subweb to my web of the staugbeachcomber2.com. After much trouble with the guy that published the beachbuzz site over mine on 2 occasions, I decided it was time to get him off my site and that he should have a domain of his own.

After that, and I do not know how in the world he did it, but he ended up publishing his site with "my web address" in the browser. I could not believe that happened and to this day, I don't know what happened. I went into my own site, deleted everything I could find with his trademark on it, but his theme still shows up in my web. He said he changed the address on his home page.!!??? I know there is a SNAFU somewhere but for the life of me I do not know what it is, and I'm not technical enough to get back to the beginning of this long rope. Does any of this information help you? Thank you. Judy

I am only guesssing byut when you said you deleted everything you might have left old vti files and that is where the FP information get stored (theme information)

I would download the theme cleaner from my prior post and see if that helps??

How win the strange case of the day award :D:
