Confused re keyword and description tags
I have just done an optimization check on my web site and the check came back with the advice that I was not using Keyword or descriptions tags.
I thought I had done as they are visible in the HTML code when I check source. If they are not being found then this obviously reduces the chances of the sitwe being found by search engines which is something I,m having problems with. Could some "in the know" please check my site at www.welshsporthorses.com and see if they are there!

the reason you are getting that message is you are not using a real hosting account you are using an AOL freebie and using a domain name that is cloaking the URL of the free accounts real URL..
the SE will only look at the top level frame which is where the domain name cloaking is, you really should buy a hosting account and set it up using your domain name rather then how you have it now, this will solve your problem with the keywords. :):
Hope that helps

But I have other web sites which are constructed/hosted in the same manner and dont have a problem.The search engines are finding them when they are submitted?
-
they are showing up on the SE's or the program you used to check this one?? what is the other website?

It,s called www.ponyplease.com and its showing up on SE'S no problem.

Okay that is good but your questions was this:
<quote>I have just done an optimization check on my web site and the check came back with the advice that I was not using Keyword or descriptions tags. /<quote>
What happens when you try the www.ponyplease.com using that same service do you get the same results or does it say that you are missing the tags?
Another question is can you tell me what search engine and what keywords are being using to find the www.ponyplease.com site, I would like to see what the SE is seeing which might give you a better idea of what is happening.

ok, I have just done a similar check on the ponyplease site and I get the same result - no keywords found. I have recently changed the site over to Front Page from Microsoft publisher as I found FP easier to update etc.
Is Fp the problem??
Welshsporthorses is a fairly new site and was done on FP from scratch.Ponyplease USED to have a good ranking but once again have just checked using horsy keywords and its fallen way down the rankings (got fed up of looking actually!)
A friend has a site www.taraco.co.uk and this is extremly well ranked ( top on google) yet when I check it on the optimizers it comes up with the same negative responses.That site is also done on FP so I guess I am answering my own question !!! It cant be FP thats the problem!!

I explained what the issue is already. When the software is checking the Domain Name it is seeing this >>
<html>
<head>
<!-- url = http://members.aol.com/thepony1/ -->
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"><title>ponyplease.com</title></head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0" framespacing="0" frameborder="0">
<frame src="http://members.aol.com/thepony1/">
</frameset>
<noframes>
<body>
The website for ponyplease.com can be found by clicking <a href="http://members.aol.com/thepony1/">here</a>.
ponyplease.com is registered through <a href="http://easily.co.uk">Easily.co.uk - get web site hosting or domain name registration here</a><br></body>
</noframes>
</html>
See no keywords or description... BUT when the search engine (and not all of these work this way) goes to your site they will spider the above BUT they will also follow the links that are in that above code >> http://members.aol.com/thepony1 SO the search engine will then spider the website that is actually under >> http://members.aol.com/thepony1 and possibly get ranked.. Now I am not sure what kind of keywords you are getting fantastic results on this type of set up but to answer your question why is simple the software is made to check the URL you give it and the URL you are giving it is the one with no keywords or anything in it.. If you want to use that program and check the actual site you need to put in >> http://members.aol.com/WELSHHORSES because that is the URL with the information.
And to answer your other question it has Nothing to do with FP at all.

Ok , sorry to be thick. Didn't really chech Ponyplease properly as I am more concered with Welshsporthorses.
This is what I get when I go to the source of welshsporthorses.com
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us">
<meta http-equiv="Page-Enter" content="revealTrans(Duration=4.00,Transition=2)">
<meta http-equiv="Site-Enter" content="revealTrans(Duration=4.00,Transition=2)">
<meta name="description" content="The Welsh Sport Horse - Combining the cleverness, agility and presence of the Cob, with the stamina, speed and power of the Thoroughbred to produce a truly all-round competition horse to equal and surpass imported horses.">
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0">

<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">
Keywords and description? This is why I can't understand the optimizer saying that I have neither.
I am a novice so please bear with me!!!

Go to www.welshsporthorses.com ..... then click on IE toolbar
View/source
THAT is what is seen .......
In my opinion if you want your site ranked well, then, as with a lot of things, you have to start correctly from the bottom up ..... having a "fake" site i.e. one that redirects to a freebie AOL site, is not doing you any favors. Hosting these days is very affordable - annual charges less than the price of a meal out - £20 or thereabouts - a worthy investment in my book and so cheap when you consider the results of doing the job properly.
then the real optimisation of your website can take place, and a true picture given. It also depends what people type into the search box ....... I have a website with no keywords at all, and has not even been submitted, yet I can get it to rank No. 1 if I type in carefully chosen words that will relate to virtually my site only .... but they would not be the words the general public would type in ......
anyway, sorry for butting in there, but felt I just had to add my 2pence ...... as the old saying goes ..... "if a jobs worth doing ... etc etc etc"
Enjoy weekend folks :D:
