If you are using the FrontPage built in Search you are very limited on how you can does its search. Are you on an NT or UNIX server? There are a lot of great and free scripts out there that make internal searches very easy.

Let us know

Thanks

I am unfortunately not using a unix server, our hosting company has an NT server where our website resides, my problem is getting really out of hand as my boss wants to fix this ASAP. The problem is that we are on shared server so they dont allow us to register any DLL file on the server, I also found a great script for the search engine but they refused to register the DLL file so I couldnt use it, thats why I am stuck with the Frontpage Feature, please if any of you know that why even after editing it doesnt look in just the folder I am limiting my search too, instead it keeps giving the reasults back after searching the entire site, I would appreciate your help. Please reply ASAP

Actually in this case I have a great solution. VERY VERY easy to make work.. Upload a few files right through FP and you add the pages you don't want to show up on the search and you are ready. The next thing is me trying to find where it is :D I will start looking now.

Robert

Found it -- Click Here (http://www.webwizguide.com/asp/sample_scripts/site_search_script.asp)

This is a reqally easy one to install and make work.

Hey gang,

I'm sorry I didn't see this one earlier.

The FrontPage Search form is actually..... Pretty Ok on NT or 2k PWS etc...

Just open the page in FrontPage right click on the form and in Search Form Properties Click the Search Results Tab.

You can experiment with only allowing this web, or a particular directory..... It works really well and there's no Uploads or registering Dll's etc...

The one Robert suggests is also really quite cool

Cheers,
Andrew

Well Ambreen,

It's back to the drawing board.

I just checked the search feature on one of the hosts that I often use (NT) and it won't let me just search the one directory. However, it only searches my site and no one elses.

I have tested it on several of our own development servers Win2K and they are fine as well as a clients in house server and it is also allowing me to search specific directories.

It could very well be that the host has a strange server configuration for shared sites. You should only be searching your website ie www.your-site.com and nobody else's. If not it's nothing to do with you, your website or FrontPage. It is definitely to do with the host and as inexpensive hosting is easy to find..... I'd yank the site and go elsewhere.

If ROberts suggestion isn't going to work for you check:

Good luck,
Andrew
