Need help with security...

Hi All:

Newbie is certainly the right department for me! Anyway, I have a FP website and need to secure a couple of directories for members-only login. The webshoster who was quick to take the money and assure me (repeatedly) that their Control Panel offers such a feature, now assures me there's no such feature..."Sorry you were told that."

So I'm stuck with trying to do it with Front Page, and I can't make it work. Instructions are pretty straightforward: I open up one of the web pages (which FP is calling a WEB, I guess) and when I get to Add User and click OKAY, it crashes. In the "Obtain List From:" is something called 'WINHOSTECN79" which I've never heard of...and apparently neither has Front Page. It's a drop-down with no other choices, and I can't change it.

Can anyone help me with this?

No, a web page is just that a web page. A web is the whole website.
To password protect, using FrontPage you have to protect a "directory" or Folder.
Have a look at the Tutorial section on this forum and you will see one on how to password protect.
