Hey everyone,
I have another question I need you help with.
I have a word document that I want to attach to my site. But I think it will look better if I make it come up as a pdf file instead of just a web document.
Can you please let me know what I need to do to get this done?
As always help is much appreciated....... :D:

To create a pdf file you are going to need the full version of Acrobat. The version you may be used to is just the Acrobat Reader file which Adobe cunningly give away free on virtually every application disk and internet site. That way they are hooking all their potential customers onto pdf format files. However to create a pdf file you need to go out a buy the full version. The part of the program which writes the pdf file emulates a printer so all you need to do in Word is to print and select Adobe Acrobat as your virtual printer. In the uk the full version is about $100.
There are several other programs which write pdf compatible files. I did try them before buying Adobe but found they wrote much larger file sizes and didn't have the same finesse. Have a look at sites like Tucows.
I have a need for lots of text files on my site (about 70 or 80 so far) and have found Adobe to be the best way of doing this because you can be fairly sure the recipient will have the reader software. With Word files, they might not.

There is a program called jawspdf that works okay.. do a search for it in google. You have to set it up to work properly since they can't tell you how to make pdf's because of copyright problems (you can read more about on the site) Anyway if you only need one made send it to me in Word and I will convert it in Adobe and email it back to you.

I am not sure how it works, but for $9.99 a month you create as many pdf files as you like from within the adobe site - there is a max upload size and other things. Although the $9.99 is not refundable it does say you can cancel, so dont know wheterh you can just pay for one month and that is it .... but they do give a free trial ..... whatever that involves.

Thanks! you all are great!
I figured I would need to do it in acrobat. I will check around the office and see if we have a full copy somewhere, and if not I will email it over.
Thanks very much for the help!

I think i only paid about £80 a year or so ago, but I may have got that wrong (memeory going, along with sanity etc). I can buy it in UK for about £170 +tax although Adobe sell it for £204 +tax at 15%.
That's a lot of money for that product- presumably its paying for the cost of all the marketing associated with distributing the Acrobat readers which make the full product the "must have" in the first place.
I didn't find the shareware copies as effective.

This is going to sound crazy,
but I actually talked the owner into BUYING us a copy to use at our company.
We are paying $210.04 for it, but we get it from distribution.
I checked the Adobe web site and they have it there for $249.00.

The Great British Ripoff!
Abobe Uk charge £204+vat @17.5%=£240.
There are roughly 1.5 $/£, so uk price equivalent is $350 very roughly.
Why are you charged $249? It always seems that the uk to us price is £ per dollar!
Why?

204+vat@17.5%? is vat like our sales tax? And if so that is a huge amount. I think our sales tax here is about 6.5%, that is a big difference.

Someone once told me that the UK had an extremely high sales tax. But they also told me that the reason was because everyone goes to college for free there. It is all paid for by the taxes.
Is that really the case?

VAT = Value Added Tax and it is added on just like any other sales tax...

....and, yes, the sun shines everyday and we all know the Queen personally.

All students except the very poor (ie those who turn up for interview without shoes) pay college fees and take out loans to cover these fees and living expenses. I believe the average loan at the end of a college degree course is £10,000. As soon as you start earning Mr Blair starts collecting the money back.
Of course, our medical service is free -those who live are twice blessed since not only have they survived but don't owe money for the priviledge.
Our roads are free. Only pay tolls on some bridges and soon we will have to pay to enter the major cities. The charge will be made on entering the cities since that way those who nick your car while you are in the city will not have to pay when they leave with it.
VAT is Value Added Tax- like your sales tax but MUCH bigger.
