Hi there

I was asked to change my publishing method by my server admin. He wants me to FTP and I have just FTP'ed using Frontpage 2002 's FTP util. The site seemed to publish (took the time) but after publishing, the site is not available returning a 404 error.

Anyone got any ideas?

As far as I know the server does have Frontpage extensions.

I remember the very first time I published the site over a year ago a friend (whom I can't reach at the moment) replaced a file or changed a file on the root dir of the site on the server. He mentioned the index file or home file or ....

Could this be it? If so what should it be?

Many many thanks in advance for your time and energy!!

Hi and welcome to our forum :HI:

You cannot mix FrontPage Extensions and publish using ftp .... you can damage the extensions and depending what components you have used in your website i.e. FrontPage forms for an example - they wont work without the extensions.

When FrontPage makes website, it starts off with a home page called index.htm .... but your server may require a page called index.html or default.htm - your host will know.

But I am interested as to why your host suddenly wants you to publish via ftp ... if they know anything about FrontPage and server extensions they will know you cannot mix the two .... also he would need to know exactly how your site is made as to whether you can safely ftp your site .. as said earlier if you use forms or shared borders and stuff, they wont work.

But I would suggest as your host requested you change the publish method - he should know why it has not worked and why your home page is not showing??? But find out from them what your home page should be called
