I have some BN gift certificates to use up, so I was taking a look at various .NET & XML books on the net. Microsoft has a "Step By Step" series of books that has gotten mixed reviews so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the series.
Also, if you have any reccommendations of other books, I'm open to suggestions. I'm looking for a good book that covers the spectrum...data access, general coding syntax, some basics, etc. If possible, I'd like it to have code examples in both C# and VB .NET, but I think I'm going to pursue C#. :furball:
Thanks for any input you have!

Hi NMJ, I have one Step by Step book for Frontpage. I would not recommend it. Maybe the books you are wanting might be a bit different, but I have found the steps are long. They are not just 4 or 5 steps. It seems as though they have drawn them out to be so long that you lose interest. I like other series better, like plain and simple and the simplified series, if you are looking for a book in like that. Do you have a BN in your town. I would suggest going to get a hands on look at them first before you buy, they do carry them in the store. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Yeah, we have a BN here. I'm planning on making a trip there this weekend. I may just pull out all the books that look like what I want and plop down in a chair for a while to look them over. I'm thinking I will avoid the Step By Step Series, though...I'm seeing some of the same negative comments repeated by ppl. Thanks!

That is what I did. I pulled about 7 books and sat down in one of their big comfy chairs and just looked them over. I should invest in BN cuz I have given them so much money lately. :D: That is the best way to do it, i think.
Hi Texas Girl
No good just buying the books, you gotta read 'em !!!!:bounce:
(have you tried putting them under your pillow at night?)

 Oh man, you figured it out. How did you know I wasn't reading them. :bounce: Actually, they are right beside my bed on a pile on the floor so just in case I get the urge to pick one up while I am relaxing in bed, they are there.
I bought a book on Dreamweaver today. "Dreamweaver in 72 Days" and "Fireworks in a Lifetime". (no, that's a fib, it actually was How to Do Everything with.... Dreamweaver 4")
And yeseterday...... I bought good 'ole "HTML Complete"
Why is the Dreamweaver book $25 or £18? Not a very good exchange rate!
