I wouldfirst suggest that youpull everything on your home page into the top screen. You are waisting alot of white space.--Barb

Hi Barb, thanks for taking a look - but how dod you mean - 'top screen'?
I am new to this = sorry.

You have to scroll down to get to the bottom half of the index page. There isn't much there except links to other sites. I would reduce them and make sure that the index page doesn't require a scroll since the information at the bottom of the page is just redirection and seems to detract from the main focus which is the KB graphic at the top. Maybe you might want a page for just related links to other sites.
By the way what is a "bagpuize".
I live in the "colonies" and don't recognize the term!

Hi there stilltrying
You really want to know what a bagpuize is?:?:
Ralph de Bagpuise was a Norman Knight and he was given this land by Wm the Conq. - there is still a French village of the name where Ralph came from. Hence we are King [given by the king ] ton [ I believe a parcel of land] and bagpuize
Now thanks both of you for helping me with my index page - off to sort this now.

Hi Barb and Brian,
I have now redone my index page and I do think it looks a lot better now. Thanks for your suggestions.

The HOME button is missing on all the other pages; only shows when hovered over....
I would still squish the height of your splash page some more....make sure doesn't take more than 400 pixels in height....then 800/600 people wont have to scroll.....

Going to do that now then JJ -
I noticed earlier that the Home page link is not showing in Netscape.
So thanks - glad it wasn't just me not seeing it.
Will sort it - hopefully and the sizing too.

JJ - this is silly perhaps - BUT where on earth do I view the length of a page? Looked everywhere - neither of my books show this as indexed under Page.
I have shortened the lenth of the splash page - and published it - I hope it looks better now - have resized the picture of the hall etc.,

You build a TABLE and set the height to 400 and then make sure your contents don't exentd past that 400 pixels (you may need to do some math or watch that the borders don't extend when you insert something)
This brings me to another question....why are you using a splash page?

Hi there JJ
Many thanks for advice - I will start that page again then.
A Splash page - ummh - well I hear they are going out of fashion, but as I have never had one it seemed a good idea to use this. By this method, I can invite people in - show them the hall and they can use a map for location [ if a speaker] all without opening up the rest of the site.
:?: :?: :?:
No go for you then?

Hi Jill: Site is looking good but I am still back on the home page. I get just a little perplexed when I see the "Village Hall" phrase three times. Once in the graphic and twice in instructions. I would have the instructions different.
Under the graphic of the hall I would have "Click on picture to enter site.
I would have the other phrase at the top read "Click here for map and maybe have Map as the url.
It's just my way of looking at it. One phrase has two instructions in it which can be confusing since the other phrase also has the words Village Hall in addition to the graphic.

Brian - Many thanks for that piece of advice. I did try yesterday to sort through that page - and did try to find other ways of showing the click to enter etc.,
I get what you mean now - I don't need confusion on the entry page now do I???
Many thanks for that info,

Hi there Stilltrying,
I have used your ideas and have now republished the site. Thanks for taking a look and for the ideas. :woohoo:
This is a really great help when others tell you what they think about things and you learn such a lot.
:HI: :woohoo: :bounce:
Hope you like it better now? www.muir.clara.net/bagpuizewi

Hi Jill: Looks great - I like the ENTER in the main graphic. I did discover that the navigation bar at the BOTTOM of all the pages has working hyperlinks except for the guestbook link. It isn't connected. I don't know if that is deliberate or not. The navigation at the TOP of the pages has all hyperlinks working.

Hi Brian, :bounce:
Thanks for taking another look at my site - that is really kind of you.
Thanks also for confirming that the entry page looks a lot better now, it is quite amazing just how much it has changed since I joined this Forum. I happened to have a copy of an early attempt when I first bought FP and the mistakes are tremendous.
So thanks to everyone, especially the guys who put this forum together and hold it together. A Forum is no good with only Experts - but to the rest of you - many thanks for all the help I have recived.
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
:flowers: for MJ, Bud, GWDGuy [who has endless patience!], JJ & Andrew, No-Mac- I hope I haven't missed anyone out.
