I just found a replacement for notepad.
It's over here:
http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/

I often use notepad to write the code behind my webpages..... just because it's so easy and convenient. I'm going to give this one a try..... It has some cool features like:

Intelligent Find and Replace
External viewer support (e.g. web browser)
Usable accelerator keys (Ctrl+S, Ctrl+N, etc.)
Dual customizable font support

There are more but these were ones that we would find handy.

See ya,
Andrew

Hi Andrew:

I noticed this post today. Have you had a chance to test MetaPad?

I use NotePad for cleaning code sometimes and am interested in what results you get with MetaPad. I also use HTML-Kit, too, it's a freebie from w3c.org. I'm particularly interested in the "find and replace" feature.--Barb :furball:

Hello Barb,

I have tried it a few times. It's fast and familiar the way it works. I thought the feature where you can set it up to launch IE or Netscape was quite usefull as well.

I've got HTML kit as well. I've played with it a bit however I sometimes forget that I have it with all the FrontPages, Dreamweavers, homesites, Namo's, GoLive's, FirstPages, etc... There are just so many editors out there now.

Metapad downloads as a single executable and you can just leave it on the desktop to doubleclick when you need it or there are instructions to change your windows configuration to replace notepad with metapad.

Cheers,
Andrew

Here is one I use sometimes. It is called editpad. There is a free version and one that you have to pay for.
